4/30 I'm not tired

Like hell I'm not. Another 12 hour day. Can't wait until June 1--the day I'm no longer a supervisor.

4/28/09 Have I ever said I'm tired?

That was a joke question. I know I say it all the time. But I am really tired and looking forward to going to bed in an hour or so and watching the DVR versions of Dancing with the Stars and Biggest Loser. Gussie is already sleeping--he had a wonderful day with his pals at Alpha Dog. I got to hold a puppy again today. They are adorable.

4/27 Rain rain go away

As I write this Gussie is out in the rain, in the mud hole where the sump pump water comes out. He is having so much fun that even my yelling at him didn't stop him. I've got to go get him soon and bathe him, but know that he will do it again if given the chance.

4/26/09 Another great day

Jan and I spent the day together. We bought flowers and plants for my garden and then came back here and Jan did all the hard work. She really knows her stuff though and I'm learning a little from her. I now know how to put down newspaper and mulch. :) And I know how to tell Rob what to do with the rest of the plants. So thanks a million, Jan, for all your help.

We also went out to lunch which was so relaxing and enjoyable for me. I look forward to eating with family on the weekend.

Joe and Cindy helped me out too, by bringing extra mulch.

It indeed was a very good day, but now I have to get in a hot shower because I'm getting stiff. Gussie already had his bath from being a mud dog while we were outside. He sure had a ball. Love to all.

4/25/09 Another good day

Gus and I had a fun day. This morning I (without my faithful companion) went to Great Debate books downtown. Off Broadway, the coffee house located inside, had free coffee and food for QU professors and adjuncts. I met some nice people, including reconnecting with Jimmy's old girlfriend, Barb, who reminded me of when they would come over to John's and my house on Maine Street. (Not brother John, husband John.)

Then I picked up Gus and we went to my office for a few hours. Following that, a leisurely trip to the pet store and we saw Cindy out in the parking lot. She was buying more flowers for her beautiful garden.

This afternoon Jane called and asked if I wanted to go to Jan's for dinner and I yelled SURE! The food was awesome and so was the company. Just got home and finished up the article I'd started earlier in the day.

4/24 A good life

At 1 I met Jan, Tim, Pete, Jane, Sarah, Jordan, and Ashley for lunch at Krieger's. What a perfect way to spend part of Friday afternoon. Cindy walked by and we chatted with her a while.

Jan stopped by my house a little later with some lovely flowers for my garden. She's the greenest thumbed person I know and she'll help me know the weeds from the not-weeds. Of course I can't do much work myself, but I'm feeling pretty good and can surely do some.

We spoke of all the activities going on this summer, and I think I'm going to walk in the Susan B Koman 5k in Peoria with Jan, Kristen, and Jane. Because we're missing the Avon Breast Cancer Walk this year, we want to do something.

Gus and I took a mile walk this afternoon too, and I saw John (our brother). It was nice to talk to him too. (Oh, yesterday I forgot to blog that it wasn't just Gussie's birthday, it was Bozie's too. And speaking of cats, Allie Cat had diarrhea on my bedroom carpeting this morning. But I still love her.)

Tonight's article: Feel-good Friday: Vaginas don't have teeth.

I'm so happy to be in Quincy. There are so many family events going on and I would have been so jealous if I were still in Biloxi. I love you guys.

4/23 Happy birthday, dear Gussie....

Happy birthday to the Guster. He's one today and is having a slumber party at Alpha Dog. I didn't get home from work until after 8 so he stayed out there.

Hope to have a nice lunch with my sisters tomorrow afternoon. Hope it works out. Love to all.

4/22 Yawn

Started my day with PT at 7 AM and ended at 8:10 PM. Then I had to come home and write my article, so it's a very tiring day. Thanks so much, Cindy, for taking care of Gus. He loves walking with you and Kirby. How cool for me to see you guys trotting through the college as I was going to work. :)

4/21/09 Puppies....

Elizabeth had the puppies down at the kennel and they are absolutely adorable. I'm just mad that I didn't take a picture. They're about three weeks old and precious. I got to hold one. Normally that would make me want to take it home but since they're $2500 each I think I'll pass. But if I were rich one of those puppies would be mine. Gussie smelled 'em and didn't seem upset about the fact that he couldn't get in the little pen with them. But his girlfriend, Hula, the baby mama, was happy to see Gus and vice versa. They kissed through the fence. Very cute indeed.

4/20 Cleaners and poop

The cleaners came today but they put the litter box so the opening opened outward instead of against the wall. In other words, Gussie got to eat cat poop to his heart's content. I'm just conjecturing here, but I did see some cat poop on the floor. Ah well...

4/19 bad headache weather

Didn't do much of anything today--the weather has given me another gross headache.

Well, I did some laundry so I'd have something to wear to work tomorrow. And I gave Gus two (count 'em two) baths because of the mud swimming he did. There's a lovely pool where the sump pump water exits the house and it's just Gussie sized. I'm scared to let him outside again without me.

4/18 Up and down all day

UP: This morning early Gussie and I went to my office and I caught up on a lot of work. Then we went to the Barkus Parade and Mardi Paws at Washington Park. I bet there were 200 dogs there. Gus loved it. So many butts to smell.

DOWN: Right after the weiner dog races it started pouring and we had two blocks to walk to get to the car.

UP: Came home and took a nap.

DOWN: Wrote an article about an 11 year old boy who committed suicide last week after being bullied. A picture of the young man accompanies the article and makes me sad.

UP: Jane called and asked if I wanted to go to the Chinese buffet with them. Hence I'm ending on an up note. (Burp!)

4/17 Week not over

I'd say I'm glad it's Friday but I need to go to work tomorrow. It's been a helluva week, that's for sure. But I picked up Gussie from Alpha Dog. He's sleeping by my feet and the cats are ignoring me. All's right with my little world.

4/16 Unbelievably tired

I've been awake since yesterday morning. Yesterday we had so many screenings and they continued all night long. As the supervisor on call I didn't have to leave my home but still had to consult with people at emergency rooms, police stations, and homes. My last call was at 3:45 this morning and by then I couldn't sleep.

So I worked all day and took a 20 minute "power nap" on the floor of my office during lunch time. Had to work until 6:30 tonight, then rushed home to get my article written, grab a sandwich and hit the sack. I'm so happy Gussie is at Alpah Dog.

4/15 REFUND

Yep, I'd made an error when I thought I had to pay federal taxes and I get a refund from the feds, Illinois, and Mississippi. I might be able to survive for a while longer. YAY.

Jill if you want to fly in for the wedding, I can swing it. Rob and Beata, I'm paying for your gas. Consider it an early/late Christmas present. I miss you all so much.

Tonight's article is: Tax day: Do you have any more hair to pull out?

Cindy, I assume you took Gussie for a walk. Thanks a million. My day was unbelievable. My staff are now on their 9th crisis call of the day. And I'm the supervisor on call. It's been incredibly busy. Tonight's class was nice though. I have some really neat people in it.

4/13 The White House has a dog

My new article tonight--The White House has a dog.

It was a good Easter. Gussie and I walked for a mile. I spoke to kids on both coasts, so I loved that. Went to Mass with family and then ate lunch at the Patio with Jane, Pete, and Sarah and Jan, Tim, and Uncle Bill.

Just finished filing my taxes and my state one was rejected. Have to figure that one out.

4/12 Q-town

Happy Easter, everyone.

This WGEM video is on Travis Hoffman and Q-town. If you've not gone to Qtown.info, please check it out. There's great information about our hometown. I go to the site nearly every day (plus of course am a Qtown (and Travis's) friend on Twitter and Facebook. Enjoy this news report and then check out Qtown.info.

(Deleted the video 4/16 because it wouldn't turn off.) :) Still please check out Qtown.info.

4/11 Didn't get taxes done

...because I spent 2 hours on the phone with Apple tech support and FINALLY I can now download all my iTunes to my iPhone. I've gone almost a year without being able to do that. And thanks to dear, sweet, PATIENT Andrew (oh and brilliant too), I now will be able to listen to my music while I walk my dog. Hooray and hallelujah!

Gussie and I walked more than a mile this morning and that was great. Later, Cindy and Cody came over for a little bit for Cody to move a file cabinet (small one on wheels...I mean he's strong and all...but...) Thanks, Cody. I really do appreciate your help. I couldn't get that thing moved.

Tonight's article is Lack of sleep can double the risk of suicide. Kind of ironic, since I'm on call this week. :)

Hope everyone has a superb Easter. Love to all.

4/9 Still tired? You betcha

I just got home a little while ago after teaching a class to parents for my job. Gus is at Alpha and I really miss the little critter. Will see him tomorrow after I do two things--work on my taxes and go to physical therapy. Am off tomorrow. Yeah!

4/8 Home from QU

It was a good class tonight, but it sure makes me tired.

Went to Doc today so I got to see Jan which is always nice. New meds for back pain, which I couldn't pick up tonight so I'll get tomorrow. Sure hope they work.

Tonight's article is sure to spark some controversy--New anti-smoking ad: Effective advertising or bordering on child abuse?

Cindy, thanks so much for taking care of Gus tonight. I really appreciate it. Love to all.

4/7 What a day

Again, so busy that I can't believe how late in the day it is. I sure missed Gus. Tomorrow night I teach at QU (thanks, Cindy) and the next night I work late because of teaching a class to parents with children with behavior problems. I'm surprised none of my relatives are in the class.

4/6 Sometimes work isn't fun

Today was so busy I can't even begin to describe it--except to say I should have stayed most of the evening. I just threw unfinished work into the desk drawer, locked it, and jumped out of there at 5:30. Tomorrow when Gus is at Alpha Dog I'll probably not pick him up until 6:30 because there's so much to do.

4/5 Happy birthday, Jill Ann!

Today Jill would have been 49. Unbelievable. I wrote an article today about sisters. Can't believe I even said that boys have cooties. How unprofessional is that!

4/4 Nice surprise

Jane and I went out to dinner by ourselves tonight. It was really nice. Went to Gem City. Then went to Kohl's and did some damage. Thanks for asking, Jane. I had a really nice time.

Gus and I walked a mile today. Yay. But first we stopped in Joe and Cindy's yard. We saw Kirby in the backyard so I let Gus and Kirby run and play awhile. Don't know where Cindy and Joe were, but it didn't matter. I sat in the sun on their swing and enjoyed watching the dogs.

Jill, Todd, and the kids are officially on their cruise. I spoke to them today as they were driving down to Long Beach. The kids are really excited. Kayla said the best part will be the "formal dinners." She can't wait to dress up. Plus she said they can have dessert with every meal. :)

Now to go watch the last ER (sigh). It's on my DVR so I can watch it without commercials.
