Worked through lunch yesterday and forgot to post. Same with today. So I thought I'd take a few minutes this afternoon to update the blog.
The family had a surprise party for my niece, Kelly, on Monday night. I almost posted about it earlier, but thought it would just be my luck that she would read the blog that day, so I didn't want to spoil the surprise. She said it was a wonderful surprise and a fun gathering.
Found out today that I don't have to work at the comedy club over the weekend, so I could go to Quincy if I wanted to. Don't feel like driving the 12 hours round-trip for a short weekend, but I also hate to miss New Year's Day with the family.
I've posted about it many times, and will post in detail on 1/1, but it's the day we celebrate our partents' lives. We go to the cemetary and have a beer with them. For some of you that may sound weird, and hell, sometimes it sounds weird to me too. But it's actually beautiful and touching--and fun. Yep. Who'd have thought it would be fun? But it sure is.
I may just talk myself into going. There's always the train.

would your family adopt me?
Jerilyn: My vote, unsurprisingly, is to drive there for the cemetery-and-beer...what a fantastic family tradition! But that's just my $.02. -- Gretchen
You guys are awesome. And giving me the push I need. I contacted my brother in Aurora to see if he still has to work. 'Cause if he doesn't, then I can ride down with him--saving the $100 in gas money. If he still can't go, then I might just buy a train ticket. It's the same price as gas, and I can sleep.
And, anne, of course they'll adopt you. We always have extra people at our gatherings. Some are there much more often than I am. And there's a lot more to the day than the cemetary visit. I love New Year's Day at home. More later on it...
BTW, Gretchen, your two cents is worth a lot more than that...
Glad you are going, Jer. I'm probably going to have to work on Sunday. But I am going to have a Last Supper. I don't think I'll be the only person starting a diet on Monday, 1/2.
Jer the 12hr drive will be much longer if you have to do it, having been beaten at board games by friend of the family, MATT!
Dave, it doesn't look good for me to go...will post more later.
Matt, you're just lucky I probably won't be there. You'll now get to be the smartest one playing games. (Don't tell Jeff I said that. He has the highest IQ in the family. But I'm still the smartest.) :)
